Hockey is the national game of India. In hockey, a player requires high level of motor fitness to excel at different levels of competitions. This book provides knowledge about motor fitness of hockey players. Motor fitness components like strength, speed, endurance, flexibility and co-ordination ability plays an important role in improving the fitness level of players. Test battery consists seven sub-tests like forward bend reach, standing broad jump, standing shot put, sit ups, 40 meters sprint, shuttle run and 800 meters run. This book will help the coaches, trainers in designing condition programme to improve motor fitness of players to achieve top performance in competitions. Coaches and trainers should conduct periodical fitness tests to evaluate the effectiveness of their conditioning programme.
The purpose of the investigation was a test of competitive state anxiety of players participating in direct and indirect competitions. 50 male players from direct competitions i.e. Judo, Hockey, Basketball and 50 male players from indirect competitions i.e. Weightlifting, Gymnastic, Throwers and Jumpers in athletics who entered quarter finals in All India Interuniversity championships 2008-09 were selected clusterly for this study. To asses the anxiety level of the players participating in direct and indirect competitions Sports Competitive Anxiety Test (SCAT) was used which was developed by Rainer Marten. To assess the anxiety level of players of direct and indirect competitions t-test was applied and it shows that there is no significant difference in anxiety level between the players of direct and indirect competitions. It was also observed that both the players of two groups posses moderate level of Anxiety.
The present work focuses on the behaviours of various sportsman belonging to different sports. Selected sports were Gymnastics, Swimming, Track and Field, Football, Hockey, and Volleyball. Players participating in the All India University Competitions were selected as subjects. Players were tested on Superstitious Behaviour and Personality characteristics.
